Watch: AFI Movie Club Conversation with Spike Lee about DO THE RIGHT THING
AFI Movie Club was created to bring us together as one global community. And now our community is in need of more thoughtful discussions about films that have shaped our culture.
DO THE RIGHT THING is that film. It’s a timeless and timely classic. The film, released in 1989, was nominated for two Academy Awards®, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Lee, and AFI ranked it as one of the 100 Greatest Films of All Time. Spike Lee has forever proven himself the voice for change that we need now more than ever.
As you know, through the generous support of our partners at Universal Pictures, DO THE RIGHT THING is available to rent for free on major digital platforms through June 29, 2020. On Thursday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT AFI hosted a live conversation with Spike Lee about his seminal film. Watch here:

Was Brecht any kind of inspiration for Do the Right Thing – politically, dialectically. musically, breaking the artifice of the film?

Hey! I hear about this new spot light coming soon. I became fashionably interested in hearing all about Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. As a young boy this movie inspired me the most to this day. I love chocolate. One of my favorite candy bars. I can relate to the movie since the long journey has always played a role in my life! Loved to hear more about this new adventure.
Sincerely, Fernando

I’m such a big fan of the movie Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. The boy who played the role in the end dragged my attention the most. I felt I were that same kid who never believe I had what it took to fit and be that spotlight for years. I believe I reached my dreams in accomplishing what I believe is best. Chocolate! ?
Sincerely, Fernando
