AFI LOS ANGELES CAMPUS ACCESS

Effective April 15, 2025

To assure the safety and security of AFI community members, its visitors, property and to ensure that only authorized personnel have access to AFI facilities, the following policies have been adopted. Access to the AFI Los Angeles campus is restricted to Fellows, Faculty, Staff, registered guests and people who have a verifiable business interest on campus.

The AFI Campus is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m Parking is free, but limited, especially during prime usage times. Please see “How to Access Campus” for additional information.

Visting Campus

AFI Faculty, Staff and Fellows must present their AFI identification. All other visitors must be pre-registered and must present a government-issued picture identification card. Walk-ins are not permitted.

AFI COMMUNITY MEMBERS

AFI community members (current Fellows, Faculty and Staff) are asked to show their AFI identification card when requested by AFI Campus Security and to ensure the appropriate parking decal affixed in the correct location on their vehicle, when applicable. If your AFI identification card is lost or stolen, you must obtain a replacement as soon as possible. Fellows should report lost or stolen cards to the Registrar’s Office, and Staff or Faculty should report lost or stolen cards to Human Resources.

GENERAL CAMPUS VISITORS

Visitors must be pre-registered by an AFI Fellow, Faculty or Staff member via the 24 hours (at least one business days) in advance of their visit to campus. Once a visitor is properly registered, the information is available to AFI Campus Security. To register multiple campus visitors for a special event or production activities on campus please upload your guest lists when completing the Campus Access Form. Any visitor who is not registered will be asked to leave the campus.

Visitors who would like to enjoy a campus tour may register through the Office of Admissions on the Campus Tours Website. Admissions will confirm directly once the request is processed. Campus tours must be reserved at least 48 hours in advance.

Please note that any AFI Fellow, Faculty or Staff member who registers a guest will be held responsible for ensuring that the guest is aware of and does not violate AFI rules and polices designed to protect the normal functions of the campus; the full accessibility of our campus; and the health, safety and well-being of all members of our community. All guests are expected to understand and comply with these rules and policies.

AFI reserves the right to remove or prohibit indefinitely any visitor who disrupts normal business operations or the academic environment.

AFI ALUMNI CAMPUS VISIT OPTIONS

We know AFI Alumni enjoy returning to campus, and we warmly welcome you back. If you would like to visit, you have three (3) options to choose from:

    1. Visit as a Guest of Faculty or Staff
      • Alumni who are visiting campus as a guest, including scheduled meetings, of a current Faculty or Staff member must be registered by their host using the Campus Access Form 24 hours (at least one business day) in advance of the visit. The Campus Access Form is available at community.afi.com.
      • Alumni registered for a special event on campus are automatically cleared for campus access and do not need additional registration.
    2. Campus Tours for Alumni, Friends and Family
      • Alumni who would like to enjoy a campus tour with their friends and family may register through the Office of Admissions Campus Tours Website.
      • Admissions will confirm directly once the request is processed. Campus tours must be reserved at least 48 hours in advance.
    3. Access to the Louis B Mayer Library or Lawrence Herbert Alumni Center (LHAC)
      • Alumni who wish to visit campus to utilize the Louis B. Mayer Library or to reserve space in the Lawrence Herbert Alumni Center (LHAC) must complete the AFI Alumni Campus Access Form at least 24 hours (at least one business day) in advance.

Any visitor who is not registered will be asked to leave the campus.

Alumni Guest Registration

Alumni bringing guests must identify each guest on the AFI Alumni Campus Access form to register their guests for a Visitor’s pass. The LHAC manages visitor access exclusively for Alumni. All guests will be the responsibility of the registrant and should be accompanied by the Alumni host throughout their visit.

AFI Campus Security will ask to see a valid government-issued picture identification card for each registered visitor. Visitors under the age of 18 are not required to provide a valid government picture identification card, but they must be always accompanied by a registered adult.

We ask Alumni to be mindful of the following:

  • Alumni must be registered prior to their campus visit and present a government-issued picture identification card upon arrival.
  • While on campus, Alumni must abide by the Alumni Code of Conduct and other policies governing conduct on campus. Alumni who do not adhere to AFI policies may be restricted from campus access.
  • Alumni and their guests who are registered for an event are automatically registered for campus access and they do not need to complete the AFI Alumni Campus Access form.
  • There are no drop-ins to the LHAC.
  • AFI Alumni are asked to remain in the area specified on their Alumni Access Form. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a secure and focused environment for Fellows, Staff and Faculty.
  • Alumni are not allowed to extend their time on campus beyond the time requested on the Alumni Access Form.
  • Campus access is limited to three (3) consecutive days.

How to Access the AFI Campus

The AFI campus is located in the hills overlooking Los Angeles at 2021 North Western Avenue.

Upon entering any and all AFI Campus entrances, registered visitors are required to provide a valid government-issued picture identification card to AFI Campus Security.

Visitors under the age of 18 are not required to provide a valid government-issued picture identification card. However, they must be always accompanied by a registered adult.

DIRECTIONS TO AFI

By Car: From the Golden State Freeway (I-5), exit Los Feliz Boulevard West. Drive approximately two miles on Los Feliz past Griffith Park until Los Feliz curves sharply to the left before becoming Western Avenue. The AFI entrance is the first driveway on the right. If you pass Franklin Avenue, then you have gone too far.

By LA Metro: The AFI Los Angeles Campus is located 2 ½ blocks north of the Hollywood/Western Metro Station.

The campus is easily accessible from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Burbank Airport, as well as from all Valley locations and Orange County.

VEHICLES:

Registered visitors are allowed entry onto campus after presenting their government-issued picture identification card to AFI Campus Security and if parking is available. When parking is limited or unavailable on campus, then registered visitors will be directed to alternative parking off campus.

Unregistered visitors driving vehicles will not be allowed entry onto campus unless they have a verifiable business purpose; examples include commercial food delivery, commercial transportation, delivery vehicles or service calls. Drivers will be asked for identification and for their campus destination.

PEDESTRIAN VISITORS:

Pedestrians wishing to enter campus must be registered as a visitor and have a government-issued picture identification card available upon entry.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Departments hosting events with a large number of outside guests must make advance arrangements to provide Security with a copy of their guestlist.

Departments must arrange reserved parking for vendors who need to access campus for special events by sending completing the Guest Parking Form which is also available on the AFI Community Page.

Visiting the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center

The AFI Silver Theatre is located at 8633 Colesville Road — at the intersection of Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue — in the heart of the new downtown Silver Spring.

Directions to The AFI Silver Theatre

By Car: The AFI Silver Theatre is less than two miles south of Beltway exit 30 (Colesville Road) and exit 31 (Georgia Avenue). The theatre is also convenient to the Bethesda area via East-West Highway, and a short drive from downtown Washington via 16th Street, NW.

By Metro: The AFI Silver Theatre is located on Colesville Road, just two blocks north of Metro’s Red Line station in Silver Spring.

By Ride-On Bus: The Silver Spring station is served by Ride-On routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 28.

By Metrobus: The Silver Spring station is served by Metrobus routes 70, 71, J5, F4, F6, JH1, J2, J3, J4, Q2, S2, S4, Y8, Z5.

Parking

The Wayne Avenue parking garage provides convenient and easy access to downtown Silver Spring. This garage entrance is located on Wayne Avenue between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street; walk out across Ellsworth Plaza and the AFI Silver Theatre is just around the corner! The Wayne Avenue garage offers FREE PARKING on weekends, and after 8:00 p.m. on weekdays.

  • Gateway Plaza parking lot, at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road
