AFI Sloan Seminar: CONTAGION Screenwriter Scott Z. Burns and Epidemiologist Dr. Ian Lipkin
In June 2020, the Conservatory hosted an AFI Sloan Seminar for AFI Fellows with CONTAGION screenwriter Scott Z. Burns and CONTAGION science advisor Dr. Ian Lipkin – a renowned epidemiologist who has been called a “master virus hunter” for his speed and innovative methods of identifying new viruses.
Doron Weber, Vice President and Program Director at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, introduced the seminar, and it was moderated by neuroscientist and AFI Sloan Faculty Dr. Moran Cerf. As part of the Sloan Film Program at the AFI Conservatory, the Sloan Seminar serves to promote dialogue and creative exchange between master filmmakers and AFI Fellows. The topics covered in the CONTAGION conversation ranged from connecting storylines in the script to listening to scientists to the filmmakers’ hopes for the film.
