THE RIGHT STUFF (1983) – AFI Movie Club

Based on a bestseller by Tom Wolfe about real-life test pilots and astronauts, THE RIGHT STUFF (1983) was named by the American Film Institute among the most inspiring films of all time – and was shot by AFI Alum Caleb Deschanel (AFI Class of 1969), recipient of the Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal for embodying the qualities of the late director: talent, taste, dedication and commitment to quality filmmaking. The film’s 1983 premiere – in three cities, Washington DC, Atlanta and Chicago – benefited the American Film Institute.
