Directed by Mike Nichols and starring Dustin Hoffman – both recipients of the AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film – THE GRADUATE (1967) earned recognition across several of AFI’s lists of film’s finest. Among its well-deserved accolades, THE GRADUATE appeared on both lists of the greatest American films of all time – the original and 10th anniversary edition – as well as among the art form’s funniest films and greatest love stories. Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” was ranked as one of the great songs of cinema, and two of the film’s iconic quotes – “Plastics.” and “Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me. Aren’t you?” – were named among the movies’ most memorable lines.
