AFI announced today it is moving the date of the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute in celebration of Julie Andrews. The event was previously scheduled for November 11, but current safety and public health standards require it to be rescheduled in order to produce an event worthy of an artist who has given so much joy to the world.
The new event date and the air date for the premiere of the Emmy® Award-winning Tribute special on TNT will be announced in the coming months. Long considered one of the preeminent annual events for the entertainment and arts community, the AFI Life Achievement Award is a singular distinction bestowed upon artists “whose work has stood the test of time.”

I once had the opportunity to meet her at a book signing, I stood in line and when I got to her, I was so star struck I could not even speak. I would be honored if that ever happened again. As a child, I fell in love with the incomparable Dame Julie Andrews as “Mary Poppins” and later on, as Maria in “The Sound of Music “…Still my favorite film as an adult.
My dream came true of actually meeting with Dame Andrews as a Cast Member while working at Disneyland in California…(three times!) She was as kind, sweet and as “Lover-ly” as one would expect her to be…Like be presented to an actual member of Royalty, only better.
I presented her with a gift of a dozen long-stem red roses and a drawing of her as “Mary Poppins” in an antique oval frame. Ms.Andrews graciously accepted her s,chatted with me a bit and then she placed her lovely hand in mine and thanked me for coming…I almost died and walked away with tears in my eyes!

Your talents,incredible vocal skills and above all, your kindness and compassion to all us doting fans, are a treasure…You totally deserve all the accolades and honors, especially this AFI Lifetime Achievement Award!
