One of the most beloved movies in the history of the art form, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (1952) danced its way across AFI’s lists of the greatest American films, as well as among cinema’s great comedies and love stories. In addition to being included among the screen’s greatest comedies and love stories, the iconic classic had three songs among AFI’s accounting of the greatest movie music – including “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Make ‘Em Laugh” and “Good Morning” – and was also named the #1 movie musical in cinema history. The film starred AFI Life Achievement Award honoree Gene Kelly – who also served as co-director and co-choreographer – and featured an early screen appearance from AFI Honorary Degree recipient Rita Moreno.
