Marking the feature film debut for director Tim Burton, PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE (1985) was presented at AFI FEST 2023 to an enthusiastic live audience by Guest Artistic Director Greta Gerwig, who cited the film as one of her inspirations and noted that “It’s so funny, special and inventive that it makes you believe in comedy and cinema and how profound this kind of silliness is.”
