The feature directorial debut of Dee Rees, PARIAH (2011) chronicles a young Black woman discovering her sexuality and asserting her identity as she deals with the pressures of her family and society’s expectations for her life. The film was edited by AFI Directing Workshop for Women alum, Mako Kamitsuna (DWW Class of 2011).
