Directed by Dee Rees and featuring cinematography by AFI Conservatory Alum – and AFI Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal recipient – Rachel Morrison (AFI Class of 2006), MUDBOUND (2017) was the opening night gala for AFI FEST – and went to on to make Academy Award® history when Morrison became the first woman ever nominated for Best Cinematography and Rees was the first black woman nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
