Based on the novel of the same name, director Philip Noyce’s psychological thriller DEAD CALM (1989) featured the breakout performance from Nicole Kidman that catapulted the young actress to international stardom and opened the doors to Hollywood – a thrilling and inspirational journey that culminated with the beloved screen icon earning an AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. First established in 1973 to honor an individual whose career in motion pictures has greatly contributed to the enrichment of American Culture, the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award was presented to Kidman at a Gala Tribute on April 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood – and will air TONIGHT on TNT at 10pm ET/PT. Tune in to see the star-studded event!
