DARBY O’GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE (1959) had its world premiere in Dublin, Ireland, on a day dubbed “Walt Disney Day” and proclaimed a school holiday. The film then had its American premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, marking the first time a Disney feature played there. Along with King Brian of Knocknasheega and his leprechauns, “whose gracious co-operation made this picture possible” according to a statement in the opening credits, the film stars AFI Life Achievement Award honoree Sean Connery.
