Congrats to AFI’s 2019 Emmy®-Nominated Alumni!

This morning at the 71st Emmy® Awards announcement, AFI Conservatory alumni garnered eight nominations for their outstanding contributions in television. Announced at The Wolf Theatre at the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center, these nominations represent a culturally diverse slate of groundbreaking television programming. AFI alumni earned nominations for critically-acclaimed work, ranging from INSECURE shot by Ava Berkofsky (AFI Class of 2013), which depicts the authentic lives of African-American women, to POSE, executive produced by Brad Falchuk (AFI Class of 1994), which puts the historically marginalized trans community front and center.

The hit series RUSSIAN DOLL, created by Leslye Headland and Natasha Lyonne who recently visited the AFI Campus for a Harold Lloyd Master Seminar, scored 13 Emmy® nominations, including recognition for Chris Teague (AFI Class of 1989) for Outstanding Cinematography for shooting the finale episode “Ariadne.” Not only did the surreal, GROUNDHOG DAY-esque comedy push new boundaries in storytelling on camera, but it also featured a writers’ room comprised of all women. AFI celebrates our talented alumni for their prestigious accomplishments and for the dynamic and diverse stories they tell.  The Primetime Emmy® Awards will air on Sept. 22 in a live telecast that starts at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
