Appearing on two of the American Film Institute’s lists of the greatest American films – including the greatest movie musicals and greatest movie songs – CHICAGO (2002) was also honored with an AFI AWARD in 2002, recognizing it as one of the year’s most outstanding achievements in the art of the moving image. According to the official rationale, “CHICAGO gives contemporary audiences the ‘old razzle dazzle’ with an explosion of talent and energy that dares them not to applaud after each musical number.
