A journey into the heart of darkness that appeared on AFI’s 10th anniversary edition of the greatest films of all time, Francis Ford Coppola’s APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) features an iconic performance from Marlon Brando – named one of cinema’s most enduring screen legends – as well as a small supporting role from AFI Life Achievement Award honoree Harrison Ford (whose character is named for another honoree, George Lucas). The film also features a line from Robert Duvall’s Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore, included among AFI accounting of the great movie quotes of all time: “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” The film’s production design was by AFI Honorary Degree recipient Dean Tavoularis.
