The game you love just got better! Today, AFI celebrated the 500th installment of Get the Picture, AFI’s signature daily movie guessing game that challenges players to identify a film from just one image. In honor of the milestone, AFI unveiled an array of all-new game features – now allowing movie lovers to track both their playing and winning streaks, as well as to challenge themselves by playing images from the game’s extensive archive of movie images. Since launching in 2022 as part of AFI Movie Club, there have been more than two million plays by film fans from around the world. The game is available to everyone to play for free at AFI.com/get-the-picture. Players can also have the daily Get the Picture images delivered directly to their inbox for free by signing up for the AFI newsletter at AFI.com/sign-up/.
“AFI Movie Club is a global community that finds a common love for the movies at AFI.com,” said Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO. “In this community, AFI’s Get the Picture has engaged millions that love a fast and fun daily game that both educates and inspires, and we look forward to expanding the audience even further with these new upgrades.”
Curated to appeal to all movie lovers, AFI’s Get the Picture daily images showcase both new and classic movies – including films on AFI’s Top 100 Lists and AFI AWARDS honorees, along with films from AFI Conservatory Alumni and AFI Life Achievement Award recipients. Once the correct answer is revealed, trivia from the world renowned AFI Catalog and AFI Archive is displayed, as well as “where to watch” information. AFI’s Get the Picture is updated every day with a new image, and the previous image is archived and accessible to all players.
Film fans can also access Get the Picture across AFI’s social media accounts, including AFI’s new HQ account on Letterboxd, which includes an official listing of AFI’s iconic Top 100 Lists and features new and exclusive content from the AFI Archive and AFI newsletters. Letterboxd members can follow the AFI HQ at letterboxd.com/afi to receive updates in their activity feed.
Additionally, the titles selected for AFI’s Get the Picture are featured on the dedicated AFI Movie Club collection on the Apple TV app – apple.co/-afimovieclub – where movie fans can easily find out where they can enjoy the selected movies, as well as films featured on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies list.
