At the Student Academy Awards® ceremony Thursday night in Los Angeles, the AFI Conservatory thesis film SHEDDING ANGELS was awarded the Bronze medal in the Narrative category. The creative team behind SHEDDING ANGELS features the following AFI Class of 2021 filmmakers: director/co-writer Freddy Macdonald, co-writer Rafael Diez, cinematographer Rui Arichika, producer Alexandre Oger and editor Jessica Petersen.
SHEDDING ANGELS is the 17th AFI thesis film to receive a Student Academy Award®. As a Student Academy Award® winner, the film is now eligible for the 2022 Best Live Action Short Oscar®.
SHEDDING ANGELS explores a confrontation between two strangers: widow Candice (81) and deadbeat Logan (29). After Logan steals Candice’s husband’s Korean War uniforms, Candice relives her marriage… with Logan. The film stars K Callan and Calum Worthy.
In August, the AFI Conservatory was once again named the #1 film school in America by The Hollywood Reporter.
The AFI Conservatory opened its doors in 1969 to an inaugural class that included Terrence Malick, Caleb Deschanel and Paul Schrader. Today, the Conservatory offers a two-year MFA degree in six filmmaking disciplines: Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Production Design and Screenwriting. In a collaborative production environment, AFI Fellows learn to master the art of storytelling, collectively creating up to 175 films a year.
