Norman Jewison’s rousing film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF stars Topol as a poor, Jewish milkman in a village in Czarist Russia whose daughters wish to break with tradition by marrying for love rather than having their marriages arranged by Yente, the town’s matchmaker. Scored by AFI Life Achievement Award honoree John Williams, the film appears on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest “cheers” in cinematic history.
