On Monday night, AFI FEST presented by Audi held its first-ever Centerpiece Drive-In at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, and screened Regina King’s directorial debut, ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI…
The first stop for all guests included a drive-thru red carpet for a picture-perfect photo op. The evening then kicked off with Audi Fellow Nicole Mejia introducing director Regina King and was followed by a short cast Q&A with Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge and Leslie Odom Jr.
As the sun set over Pasadena, the screen lit up and the main event started! Festival-goers were treated to King’s timely and important film based on the play of the same name by Kemp Powers. Set in February 1964, the film follows friends Cassius Clay, Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcolm X who gather in a hotel room to celebrate Clay’s heavyweight championship win. Reveling in the night, they match wits and stories. As their banter subsides, they turn to ideas of power, future dreams and civil rights — challenging each other on fame, money, activism and racism.
The Drive-In premiere is sponsored by Audi and as a part of the experience, VIP guests were given exclusive access to watch the film from the comfort of an all-electric Audi e-tron.
And guests shared their memories of the night using the FEST virtual photo booth. Share your own photos of FEST on social media, and be sure to tag @AFIFEST on Twitter and @AmericanFilmInstitute on Instagram.
