AFI FEST 2019 Announces Full Program
The program for this year’s AFI FEST presented by Audi includes 142 titles of which 51% are directed by women.
The New Auteurs section highlighting emerging directors features 24 films, with 17 helmed by female filmmakers. The section also includes two official International Feature Film Oscar® submissions: Morocco’s ADAM and Russia’s BEANPOLE.
Over in the Cinema’s Legacy section, AFI FEST turns the spotlight to the men and women behind the lens. This section is a celebration of motion picture history and a special opportunity to celebrate classic films, and those who created them. The section features three documentaries on renowned filmmakers, FORMAN V FORMAN, HE DREAMS OF GIANTS and VARDA BY AGNÈS, along with TALKING ABOUT TREES, a documentary on the history of Sudanese cinema, as well as ROMANTIC COMEDY, an examination of the popular genre and its effect on the culture at-large.
This year’s Shorts section will include a screening of FIRE IN PARADISE, which screened at the Meet the Press Film Festival with AFI, and will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers moderated by Chuck Todd, Meet the Press Moderator and NBC News Political Director.
And don’t miss the Midnight section screenings, featuring the chilling and provocative genre films JALLIKATTU and SAINT MAUD.
