AFI Alumni Projects Garner Nominations for the 97th Annual Academy Awards

Congratulations to the AFI Conservatory Alumni whose projects were nominated for an Academy Award®! Alex David (AFI Class of 1999) landed a nomination for Best Original Screenplay for his work on SEPTEMBER 5, which chronicled the hostage crisis at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Executive producer Aaron Himmel’s (AFI Class of 2011) film THE BRUTALIST, a period drama starring Adrien Brody, scored a Best Picture nomination. Also in the Best Picture category, the Academy recognized A COMPLETE UNKNOWN which features the work of assistant art director Benjamin Cox (AFI Class of 2014) and I’M STILL HERE which was edited by Affonso Gonçalves (AFI Class of 1993).

The nominations for the 97th Oscars® were announced by Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang in a live presentation from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater on January 23, 2025. The ceremony will be hosted by Conan O’Brien on Sunday, March 2, 2025, and televised live at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT on ABC, streamed live on Hulu and air live in more than 200 territories worldwide.
