When  CASABLANCA (1942) won the Oscar® for Best Picture, Warner Bros. executive Jack Warner arrived on the stage to accept the award before producer Hal B. Wallis had a chance to receive the honor himself—a slight which resulted in a rift between Wallis and the studio. Wallis claimed that Warner was never interested in the film and should not have gotten credit for the award.
