A RAISIN IN THE SUN (1961), adapted from the Broadway play by Lorraine Hansberry, stars AFI Life Achievement Award recipient and AFI Founding Vice Chair Sidney Poitier, Claudia McNeil, Ruby Dee and Diana Sands, all of whom recreated their roles in the film version. The film opened in March of 1961 at the Forum Theatre and Trans-Lux 52nd Street Theatre in New York City and later screened as one of the U.S. entries to the Cannes Film Festival.
