Ranked on AFI’s list of the top 10 greatest Western films of all time, CAT BALLOU (1965) is based on Roy Chanslor’s 1956 novel, “The Ballad of Cat Ballou.” The film stars an impressive cast that includes AFI Life Achievement Award recipient Jane Fonda, Lee Marvin, Michael Calin and Nat King Cole. According to Osborne, “as good as they all are, the film belongs lock, stock, and barrel to Lee Marvin.” After the film’s release, the breakthrough dual roles Marvin portrays made him “a star and an Oscar champ.” Learn more at the AFI Catalog
