Movie Club Frequently Asked Questions

What is AFI Movie Club?

AFI Movie Club is a newly launched program to raise the nation’s spirits by bringing artists and audiences together – even while we are apart. AFI selects iconic movies for the world to watch together, creating a communal viewing experience. Audiences can “gather” at AFI.com/MovieClub to view the featured movie with the use of their preexisting streaming service credentials.

How do I join AFI Movie Club? Does it cost anything?

AFI Movie Club is open to everyone and does not require you to do anything to join.

How do I watch the movie?

On AFI.com/MovieClub, there is a section called “Where to Stream.” Powered by Reelgood, it tells you where you can watch the featured title, from subscription services (like Netflix and Prime Video) to free services (like Crackle, TubiTV and others) to TV everywhere options (like FX, ABC and FOX) to rental and purchase options (like iTunes, Amazon and Vudu).

AFI has also launched a dedicated AFI Movie Club collection on the Apple TV app, so movie fans can easily find out where they can enjoy the recommended films.

Do I have to sign up for a ReelGood Account?

No. You can use ReelGood “Where to Stream” without creating an account, but you may have to log into your streaming services (like Netflix, Prime, iTunes) before you are able to watch. If you create an account with ReelGood and connect to all your streaming services through the app, you won’t have to login each time you want to enjoy one of the AFI Movie Club titles.

Why aren’t you streaming the films for free?

AFI doesn’t have the rights to stream the films for free, however options via ReelGood may include opportunities to watch the titles for free or through services you already have.

How do I join the conversation about the film?

You can join the conversation online using the hashtag #AFIMovieClub on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. If you don’t have social media accounts, you can post a comment on the blog postings for each film found at AFI.com/news.

Is there a certain time to watch the film?

Since AFI Movie Club is open to movie fans worldwide, we encourage everyone to watch the film at a time that is convenient for them. If possible, make plans with family, friends and fellow AFI Movie Club fans to start watching at the same time to share the experience.

How do I find out when a new film title is announced?

New films titles are announced on AFI.com/MovieClub and on AFI’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts, and via the AFI Movie Club e-newsletter.
