A hilarious rags-to-riches comedy directed by John Landis and featuring an all-star cast that includes Dan Aykroyd, Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche and Denholm Elliott – as well as an iconic early performance from AFI Honorary Degree recipient Jamie Lee Curtis – TRADING PLACES (1983) also marked the second feature in the meteoric rise of the great Eddie Murphy, who tonight will join the ranks of great artists who have earned the highest honor for a career in film – to take his “deserved place beside leaders in other arts” as the award’s 51st recipient. First established in 1973 to honor an individual whose career in motion pictures has greatly contributed to the enrichment of American Culture, the award will be presented to Murphy at a Gala Tribute TONIGHT at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
