Adapted from the iconic comic strip by Chester Gould, DICK TRACY (1990) brought the four-panel crimefighter to the big screen in a candy-colored confection that stands as one of the genre’s great achievements in art direction – and for which the film earned an Academy Award, along with statues for Best Makeup and Best Original Song. Directed and produced by star and AFI Life Achievement Award recipient Warren Beatty, this prototypical superhero picture also features two other honorees – Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman – as well and production design by AFI Honorary Degree recipient Richard Sylbert.
