An epic love story set in Russia that was nominated for ten Oscars®DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965) was based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Boris Pasternak. The story was deemed to be anti-Russian and was banned in Pasternak’s homeland, but the CIA went to great lengths to use Doctor Zhivago as anti-Communist propaganda. Not long after its first publication, the CIA covertly arranged for Doctor Zhivago to be printed in Russian and distributed the novel at the 1958 International World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium.
