Newly Launched Program Now a Dedicated Collection on the App
Michael and Cameron Douglas Announce Today’s AFI Movie Club Pick
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Los Angeles, CA, May 5, 2020 – The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that it has launched a dedicated AFI Movie Club collection on the Apple TV app, so movie fans can easily find out where they can enjoy the recommended films. Building on the AFI Movie Club’s mission to provide inspiration and entertainment in a time of need, the Apple TV app collection will showcase all of AFI’s chosen films and be updated daily with the latest selection. Audiences can view the collection at apple.co/-afimovieclub on the Apple TV app, which is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, select Samsung and LG smart TVs, and Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices.
“With this dedicated collection, movie lovers will have the opportunity to find AFI Movie Club selections even more easily,“ said Bob Gazzale, President and CEO. “AFI’s goal is to shine a light upon one movie a day that will lift the viewer’s spirits – and we look forward to guiding audiences to discover and rediscover these classics through the Apple TV app.”
Launched last month, AFI Movie Club’s first selection was THE WIZARD OF OZ, announced by Steven Spielberg. The daily picks are supported by fun facts, family discussion points and exclusive material from the AFI Archive to enrich the viewing experience.
Today’s film, SPARTACUS, starring AFI Life Achievement Award recipient Kirk Douglas, was announced by Michael Douglas – also an AFI Life Achievement Award recipient – and his son Cameron. The film is honored across several of AFI’s lists of the greatest films of all time – including a ranking at #5 of the greatest epics in cinematic history.
The following special guests have introduced AFI Movie Club film titles: J.J. Abrams, Halle Berry, Jack Black, Hanelle Culpepper, Robert De Niro, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, Hugh Grant, Morgan Freeman, Taylor Hackford, Eva Longoria, Helen Mirren, Elisabeth Moss, Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, Emma Roberts, Alicia Silverstone and Sharon Stone. Some of the selected titles so far have included CASABLANCA, THE FAREWELL, GILDA, JURASSIC PARK, MOONLIGHT, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY… and WONDER WOMAN.
