Four AFI Directing Workshop for Women Participants Named to Universal’s 2018 Directors Initiative

Universal’s Global Talent Development & Inclusion group announced its next class of filmmakers who will participate in the studio’s 2018 Directors Initiative, which exposes directors to the studio production process as well as creative and production executives across the company. Four participants come from the AFI Directing Workshop for Women: Georgia Fu (YOU WIN USA VACATION RESORT), Milena Govich (UNSPEAKABLE), Gandja Monteiro (CONTROL/OPTION/ESCAPE) and Lorraine Nicholson (ON KILLER ROBOTS).

The Initiative, which launched in 2017 as a week-long intensive in collaboration with Sundance Institute’s FilmTwo Initiative and AFI Directing Workshop for Women, will now be expanding to a year-long program designed to give participating directors access to a wider group of executives from various divisions of NBCUniversal to develop a network and gain insight on potential future directing opportunities at the company.

The program also includes filmmakers from Sundance Institute FilmTwo and NBCUniversal International’s Filmmasters.
