AIR GUITAR NATION

Alexandra Lipsitz
USA/FINLAND, 2006, 80 minutes

DC Premiere

Some do it in the car. Some do it in the shower. Some do it in front of the mirror.

A group of progressive Finnish pioneers have been doing it for years.

Anyone can play air guitar, but only a rare few display true talent at not making music. C-Ditty and Bjorn Turoque are mock stars of the first order. Strumming, strutting and shimmying, they hurl themselves into the air, allowing the music to set them free. It doesn't matter who they are-an accountant, acrobat or art student-as long as they have rhythm.

C-Ditty, a Los Angeles-based, self-proclaimed rock god, is equal parts shtick and soul, parading around in his custom-made Hello Kitty breast plate. His primary competition is Brooklyn heartthrob Bjorn Turoque, sporting ripped spandex and an unruly mop of curly hair.

The two go head-to-head at the first ever USA Championships, after which the action moves to Oulu, Finland. With one last shot at the title, Bjorn and Ditty rock it out and compete against the world's most wondrous musicians without instruments for air guitar domination.

AIR GUITAR NATION is an exuberant chronicle of the struggle for air guitar supremacy and mock stardom.
