21 UP AMERICA

World Premiere

"Give me a child until he is seven, and I will show you the man." So begins one of the most successful and influential documentary series ever produced-Michael Apted's seminal UP series.

In 1962, Apted began chronicling the lives of fourteen English children, all aged seven and from all walks of life. Inspired by the series, Christopher Quinn-who recently won both the Grand Jury and Audience awards at Sundance for his remarkable film, GOD GREW TIRED OF US-has directed the third installment in a gripping series that intends to raise the same questions posed by the original, but now located in America. Beginning with age 7, followed by age 14, Quinn's latest film finds its subjects at the complex age of 21. It focuses on the same sixteen young people now on the fragile cusp between adolescence and adulthood.

From Red State to Blue, East Coast to West, and much of the Heartland in between, the film offers a rare glimpse into the newest generation of American adults. It explores what is important to them as they articulate their day-to-day joys and struggles, as well as their hopes for the future. Quinn has an obvious rapport with his subjects who open themselves up to him, and his is a tender, thought-provoking portrait of young adults in flux in a young country in flux.
