SILVERDOCS: Documentary on the Silver Screen
SILVERDOCS was created through a unique alliance between AFI and the Discovery Channel to showcase, honor and expand the audience for independent documentaries. In just two short years, SILVERDOCS has attracted the most sought-after filmmakers and films from around the world, becoming the fastest-growing and most talked-about documentary film festival in the United States.
In 2004, SILVERDOCS featured:
- 79 films selected from over 1,200 submissions;
- Films and participants from over 60 countries;
- Seven world premieres and nine US premieres;
- Over 12,000 attendees;
- Outdoor screenings and other free events for Washington, DC, area residents.
Concurrently with the Festival, SILVERDOCS also produces an International Documentary Conference. The 2004 Conference presented: - Three full days of seminars and workshops;
- Screenings and pitch sessions;
- More than 25 individual programs;
- Informal networking opportunities at meals and industry receptions.
Programs at the 2004 Conference addressed a variety of topics including: international co-production issues, an exploration of cultural perspectives on media and film, and a discussion about the need for dialogue between filmmakers and broadcasters in emerging and developed economies.
The Festival and Conference are based at the restored AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD, just minutes from downtown Washington, DC. Conference programs, special events and receptions take place at the Silver Theatre, at our Cinema Lounge or just steps away at Discovery Communications World Headquarters.
