JAMES DEAN: FOREVER YOUNG
Michael J. Sheridan
USA, 2005, 88 minutes
FOREVER YOUNG explores the power of film and one of its most spectacular stars, James Dean. Dean starred in just three feature films, yet his iconographic image as the beautiful young rebel resonates throughout the world 50 years after his death at the age of 24.
Dean had just finished shooting his final film when he crashed his Porsche Spyder into another car at a desolate crossroads near Paso Robles, California. Dean's landmark portrayal of teenage angst and recklessness in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, directed by Nicholas Ray, was released just a month after Dean's death. GIANT is George Stevens' adaptation of the Edna Ferber classic. Dean's screen debut was in Elia Kazan's EAST OF EDEN, for which he became the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination. FOREVER YOUNG reveals the artist behind the icon who is an acknowledged influence on current actors from De Niro to Depp.
Narrated by Martin Sheen, FOREVER YOUNG celebrates Dean's life and career and the power of his legacy. Filmmaker Michael Sheridan interviewed 300 people who had worked with Dean and located 28 of the 38 television shows featuring Dean that have not been seen since they aired originally, in his 10-year journey to make the "definitive Dean documentary."
JAMES DEAN: FOREVER YOUNG offers the rare opportunity to watch Dean's craft develop as he moves from television to the silver screen.
Post-screening discussion hosted by Arch Campbell (NBC4 Movie and Entertainment Critic) with director Michael J. Sheridan, Marcus Winslow (cousin of James Dean) and Dennis Stock (renowned James Dean photographer).
