4. Weather and wardrobe considerations?
June tends to be quite hot and humid in the Washington, DC, area and is subject to unexpected summer thunderstorms. Be sure to bring a sweater, as many venues tend to be very well air-conditioned. Because the Conference events are held in several different locations, comfortable walking shoes and an umbrella are a good idea.

FAIR USE AND THE CREATIVE PRICE OF COPYRIGHT CLEARANCE FOR DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKERS

presented by the Center for Social Media, School of Communication, American University

A workshop on the problems that plague documentarians when they try to get the necessary clearances to quote audio and visual material in their work. They will participate in guided discussions to develop a Statement of Best Practices, which can change the legal landscape for filmmakers, broadcasters and programmers alike.

Advance registration is required for this groundbreaking gathering. Participants are invited to read, prior to the workshop, the draft report "Untold Stories: Creative Consequences of the Rights Clearance Culture for Documentary Filmmakers" By Pat Aufderheide and Peter Jaszi, available on-line at:
