HOW TO APPLY

There are two ways to enter your documentary in SILVERDOCS:
  1. Apply online at www.withoutbox.com. Upgraded projects save $5 on entry fees. Just click on the Withoutabox banner below.
  2. Download the Entry Form (in .pdf format), and then mail the completed Entry Form and required enclosures to SILVERDOCS.

    IMPORTANT DATES

    November 5, 2004 SILVERDOCS opens Submission Process
    January 28, 2005 Early submission deadline
    March 4, 2005 Final submission deadline

    ENTRY FEES:

    Early deadline (must be postmarked by January 28)

    • $25 short documentary (under 50 minutes)
    • $30 feature-length documentary (50 minutes and over)

    Final deadline (must be postmarked by March 4)

    • $30 short documentary (under 50 minutes)
    • $40 feature-length documentary (50 minutes and over)

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

    • The documentary must have been completed after March 1, 2004.
    • The documentary must not have been broadcast on television in the United States or screened theatrically in the United States prior to June 14, 2005.
    • If the documentary is in a language other than English, it must be subtitled or dubbed in English.
    • Washington, DC area premiere status is taken into account for all entries; entries that have not yet screened in the Washington, DC area are given priority.

    SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES:

    • Please submit two 1/2" VHS (NTSC or PAL) videocassettes or two DVDs (US format) (VHS/NTSC preferred). All entries must be labeled with the title, running time and contact information (contact name, e-mail and phone) on tape/DVD and holding case. Please do not send submissions in fiber-filled envelopes, as the dust damages tapes and VCRs.
    • All entries must be sent prepaid. Collect or C.O.D. (cash on delivery) shipments not accepted. SILVERDOCS will not assume responsibility or accept shipments incurring expenses for terminal charges, duties, taxes or customs brokerage. Please indicate on your shipping bill that all transportation and customs charges will be billed to the sender.
    • Filmmakers may submit more than one documentary. Each documentary must be accompanied by its own Entry Form and Entry Fee.
    • Videocassettes, DVDs and submitted materials will not be returned. Please do not send film prints, master tapes or other originals.
    • If you require confirmation of receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped postcard.
    • The Entry Fee is non-refundable.
    • All documentaries selected to screen in the Festival grant SILVERDOCS the rights to use footage, stills and/or titles and information from the documentary for promotional purposes.
    • All filmmakers will be notified of their status by May 20, 2005 via e-mail. Please keep us informed of any changes in e-mail, address or phone.
    • Due to the number of submissions, SILVERDOCS is unable to provide feedback on any film entries.

    IF SELECTED:
    If your documentary is selected to screen in the Festival, you will be required to provide the following:

    • Projection print or video (filmmaker is responsible for the delivery costs of the projection print or video including any applicable customs fees. SILVERDOCS will cover the costs of the return shipping at the conclusion of the Festival);
    • Minimum ten complete press kits for feature-length documentaries or five complete press kits for short documentaries;
    • One 30-second clip or trailer on 3/4" tape or BetaSP (for possible inclusion in Festival trailer and press);
    • Five additional preview videocassettes on VHS (NTSC).
