Criss-crossing timelines from adolescence to adulthood, the story follows sickly, artistically inclined Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) and tormented math whiz Mattia (Luca Marinelli) as they navigate difficulties in their family, school and work lives, with events of the past having profound influence on the present.
