THE HOUSE [Dom]
Contemporary Eastern Europe's divisions — between generations, genders, economic strata and city and country — are given incisive, affecting treatment in writer/director Zuzana Liova's debut feature. Bright teenager Eva saves money in hopes of moving to London; meanwhile, her old-fashioned father Imrich busily builds a house for her to move into next door to the family's. Imrich's long-standing feud with Eva's older sister Jana and her husband, who are struggling to get by, adds another layer of tension to the family's drama. After Eva meets a handsome, worldly new neighbor, she is tempted, like her sister before her, to leave the family nest sooner rather than later. Official Selection, 2011 Berlin Film Festival.
