THE GOOD SON [Hyvä Poika]
Fleeing a wave of terrible press after a disastrous premiere, fading film star Leila (Elina Knihtilä, THE HOUSE OF BRANCHING LOVE) escapes to her serene lake house with her two sons. Brooding 17-year-old Ilmari (Samuli Niittymäki) is his mother's de facto bodyguard and confidant. But when she invites a rowdy group of friends over for the weekend, the neglected Ilmari begins to lash out. As Leila connects with a charming writer, asking him to stay a few extra days, Ilmari starts a relationship of his own with a quirky local waitress. This unsettling Oedipal drama features a standout performance from Niittymäki in his first leading role. Official Selection, 2011 Toronto Film Festival.
