[Boleto al Paraiso]

Fleeing her sexually abusive father and stifling small town, Eunice sets out with a group of "freakies" on their way to Havana in this energetic portrait of youth in early '90s Cuba. As they scheme and party their way across the country, Eunice falls in love with the charismatic leader of the group, Alejandro. But with no place to live and little hope for the future, the desperate group resorts to drastic and shocking measures to eke out a living. Filmmaker Gerardo Chijona's honest and heartbreaking film captures the rawness of post-Cold War Cuba and the go-for-broke mentality and depravity of its young protagonists. Official Selection, 2011 Sundance and Los Angeles Film Festivals.
