THE PRIZE [El Premio]

Screenwriter Paula Markovitch (DUCK SEASON, LAKE TAHOE) makes her directorial debut with this haunting portrait of a mother and daughter living in Argentina during the "Dirty War" in the 1970s. Before sending 7-year-old Ceci (Paula Galinelli Hertzog) to school, Lucia (Laura Agorreca) coaches her on their new identity, telling her to forget the old one. Precocious Ceci does well, but when asked to write an essay on "Our Army," she answers that she's afraid of the army, which took her daddy away. Lucia rewrites the essay to praise the army, lest their secret be revealed. She has staved off disaster...until the essay is selected as the school's winner.
