El Salvador

THE OPEN SKY [El Cielo Abierto]

Archbishop Óscar Arnulfo Romero was assassinated in El Salvador on March 24, 1980, for speaking out against poverty, social injustice and the terrible violence in his country, but his work and message still live on in this moving documentary. Helping to tell the story are interviews with the many people whose lives were affected by the archbishop and his work. Using a wealth of archival footage and material culled from Romero's homilies, letters and radio broadcasts, filmmaker Everardo González creates a remarkable portrait of a remarkable man, one whose heroism in the face of great danger and daunting odds still inspires today.
