CHICO AND RITA [Chico y Rita]

Spanish filmmaker Fernando Trueba partnered with animators Tono Errando and Javier Mariscal on this tribute to one of his great passions — the golden age of Cuban jazz. Beginning in 1948, the film follows the story of pianist Chico and singer Rita, whose personal and musical relationship takes them from Havana to New York to Paris to Hollywood to Las Vegas, across six decades. Jazz fans will enjoy spotting the many greats who make cameos, old standards and jazzy originals seamlessly blended on the soundtrack, and Chico's piano playing, performed by Cuban legend Bebo Valdés. Official Selection, 2010 Toronto Film Festival.
