COLOMBIA
CRAB TRAP [El vuelco del cangrejo]

The debut feature from writer-director Oscar Ruiz Navia has won awards at film festivals around the world, and it signals the emergence of a distinctive new talent. A mysterious man named Daniel arrives in the village of La Barra, an Afro-Colombian community tucked away on Colombia's rugged Pacific coast. He is looking to get a boat and leave the country--and also, it's tantalizingly implied, to leave behind some tragedy from his past. Forced to wait until the fishermen return from a long haul, Daniel gets caught up in the local dramas, including a love-triangle-fueled feud among nightclub proprietor Paisa, the village's de facto mayor, Cerebro, and local beauty Jazmin. FIPRESCI Prize, 2010 Berlin Film Festival; Official Selection, 2009 Toronto Film Festival.
