COSTA RICA
COLD WATER OF THE SEA [Agua fria de mar]

Seven-year-old Karina is the apple of her father's eye and is used to getting her way. When she is punished for wandering from her family's beachside campsite, she rebels by running away and falls asleep in some tall grass. When a young middle-class couple stumble upon her, Karina spins a tall tale of familial dysfunction that disturbs twenty-something Mariana and leads to a tailspin. Drawing astute parallels between the loneliness and frustration felt by its two protagonists, director Paz Fabrega's first feature is a finely drawn mood piece and was a Tiger Award winner at the 2010 Rotterdam Film Festival.
