BRAZIL
BESOURO

Based on the life and--especially--the legend of capoeira fighter and social leader Manuel Henrique Pereira (1895-1924), known as Besouro Mangangá. While studying the dance-fighting martial art of capoeira, the young Besouro forges a mystical connection to the Orixás, African deities who grant the young fighter magical powers and superhuman capoeira skills that he uses to battle the tyranny of an oppressive landowner. João Daniel Tikhomiroff directs the eye-popping action sequences with great style, incorporating high-flying wire work and martial arts by members of the KILL BILL and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON team, while real-life capoeirista Aílton Carmo shines in his screen debut. Official Selection, 2010 Berlin and Miami Film Festivals.
