This unique film draws on various works by the Marquis de Sade and Edgar Allan Poe by imagining a meeting between a Sadean Marquis, who delights in blasphemy and vice, and a Poe-faced young man who, fearing for his sanity, commits himself to an asylum that turns out to be run by the inmates. Acclaimed animator Svankmajer slyly comments on the live-action storyline by interweaving animated vignettes starring what can only be described as meat puppets. Not for the faint of heart!
