Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival
For ten nights this October, the ninth annual Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival showcases the best in new horror cinema from around the world, and once again the entire festival (more than 40 shorts and features) screens at AFI Silver Theatre!
On Opening Night, October 9, we are happy to present the third in the V/H/S series - V/H/S VIRAL, alongside another frightening sequel, THE DEAD 2: INDIA. Additional highlights of the fest include the creepy HOUSEBOUND, which had its world premiere at South by Southwest earlier this year; the sensational Australian movie THE BABADOOK; the brutal Brazilian film MAR NEGRO; the long-awaited bigfoot movie EXISTS from Eduardo Sanchez; the first Iranian vampire Western A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT, which is one of two films this year that screened at Sundance; SUBURBAN GOTHIC, the hysterical horror comedy from Ricky Bates, the brilliant director of Spooky Fest favorite EXCISION; and many more surprises. Count Gore De Vol, Washington, DC, icon and honorary spokesman for the festival, hosts the Closing Night presentation on October 18: the 1977 cult classic THE HILLS HAVE EYES.
Unless otherwise noted, no one under 18 will be admitted without a parent or guardian to any of the screenings.

THE DEAD 2: INDIA
East Coast Premiere
In this ferocious sequel to the worldwide horror hit (and 2011 Spooky Fest favorite), THE DEAD, an infectious epidemic spreads through India as an American turbine engineer (Joseph Millson of TV's 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY) learns that his pregnant girlfriend is trapped near the slums of Mumbai. Now he must battle his way across a 300-mile wasteland of the ravenous undead. Once again directed by the Ford Brothers, THE DEAD 2: INDIA builds on the first film, but ramps up the action, drama and intensity on an exotic and truly epic scale. THE SMILEY FACE KILLERS
What if you were making a documentary about a gang of serial killers and they found out? Since 1998, the Smiley Face Killers gang has been responsible for the drowning deaths of more than 80 young men across 11 states. They torture their victims using water-boarding-style techniques for days and in some cases months until they kill them. Then they dump the bodies in nearby rivers or lakes, subsequently washing away any evidence and always leave their signature of a smiley face painted nearby. In 2013, a documentary filmmaker became part of the story when he disappeared while getting too close to the truth. Wonderful slow burn that will keep audiences second guessing everything, even after the credits.

Today is Mary's baby shower and they're happy to get out and catch up with all of their friends before the stork arrives. As the party winds down, a neighbor frantically knocks on the door. He's hurt, soaked in blood and carrying a big knife. He just stabbed his wife in self-defense after she inexplicably attacked him. Then the trouble really begins. Fun, scary and original. From director Stuart Simpson (who longtime fans of Spooky Movie will remember as the man behind 2010’s amazing EL MONSTRO DEL MAR) comes another dark film about a lonely ice-cream van driver, Warren Thompson, and his unhealthy obsession with television soap starlet, Katey George. The blackest of black comedies you are likely to see, CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY VANILLA is a shattering experience and "further establishes Simpson as one of Australia’s most inventive and assured genre filmmakers." - Screen Space.

Following February's sold-out sensation THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and July's packed house for THEM!, local legend Count Gore De Vol (Dick Dyszel) returns to present another terrifying film in the spirit of the original broadcasts on CREATURE FEATURE, with interactive intermissions and lots of ghoulish good fun and surprises in store.
On the way to California, a family has the dreadful misfortune to have their car break down in an area closed to the public, and inhabited by violent savages ready to attack.
