Director Michel Hazanavicius pays tribute to the lost art of silent comedy and the glamour of old Hollywood, creating a bona fide, brilliant and bittersweet silent feature set in 1929, the pinnacle of the silent era — and its penultimate moment of glory before the advent of sound changed everything. Jean Dujardin (Best Actor, 2011 Cannes Film Festival) plays George Valentin, a Douglas Fairbanks-like matinee idol who meets cute with star-struck ingénue Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo) on the red carpet at his latest premiere and helps her get a bit part in his next feature. Little does Valentin suspect that Peppy's star will rise as his falls with the coming of talkies. With John Goodman, James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller in supporting roles. Official Selection, 2011 Cannes, Telluride, Toronto, New York Film Festivals.
