Now in its 27th year, the AFI European Union Film Showcase continues its tradition of bringing the best in European cinema to the Washington, DC, region.

Recent AFI European Union Film Showcase favorites have included Sweden’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, Germany’s THE LIVES OF OTHERS, France’s THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY and PERSEPOLIS, and the UK’s ANNA KARENINA, THE YOUNG VICTORIA and LE WEEK-END, all making their Washington, DC, area premieres at AFI Silver, before going on to successful theatrical runs.

This year's selection of films will include international film festival award-winners, local box-office hits and debut works by promising new talents, plus many countries' official Oscar® submissions for Best Foreign Language Film.

The AFI European Union Film Showcase is organized by the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union and the Cultural Counselors of the member states of the European Union in Washington, DC.

Can’t get enough of European film? With the Passport, you’ll zip right past customs (the AFI Silver box office) and be admitted to every film in the showcase, NO TICKETS NEEDED. The all-access Passport gives you admission for one to every screening, including Opening and Closing Night films and Special Presentations, as well as access to Happy Hours. At the end of the showcase, you can see how many countries you “visited” by checking the stamps in your Passport! Valued at more than $600!

Stop by the café on select days during the showcase from 6:00 to 7:00 for Happy Hour! Happy Hours feature European drink specials, complimentary snacks courtesy of local restaurants and festive music. Enjoy a cold drink and a delicious appetizer before your film.
